The power of the ecosystem: Magic happens!
<p>
Throughout the year, I've blogged about the power of the ecosystem. Whether it was a focus on the http://socialbusinesssandy.com/2014/02/27/pulse-cloud-ecosystem-announcements-a-summary-infographic, the http://socialbusinesssandy.com/2014/02/05/the-power-of-the-entrepreneur-and-the-ecosystem-ibm-entrepreneur-week/">entrepreneur ecosystem, or <a href="http://socialbusinesssandy.com/2014/01/07/social-business-is-all-about-people-in-2014-3-big-priorities/">empowering folks to create a digital ecosystem</a>, I'm a big believer that nurturing an ecosystem is essential to success.
</p>
<p>
I'm always encouraging companies who have smarter, game-changing, industry-disrupting solutions to build and engage their ecosystem. As a result, I've seen tremendous opportunities come to life... magic happens!

At the IBM Connect conference in January, two IBM Business Partners, <a href="http://www.isw.com.au/wps/portal/isw">ISW</a> and <a href="http://www.trustsphere.com/">TrustSphere</a>, met for the first time on the trade show floor. What makes this really special is that ISW and TrustSphere both have a presence in Australia, but met for the first time in Orlando, Florida. They quickly realized the value that could be gained for each company in collaborating with each other!
</p>
<p>
Working together, these two companies developed a new social solution, called <b>Kudos Insights for IBM Connections</b>. According to the TrustSphere website, "Kudos Insights for IBM Connections can now leverage the power of Messaging Intelligence to deliver better collaboration insights when managing on line communities and accelerating social adoption."
</p>
<p>
What a great business success story! And I can't think of a more powerful way to underscore the value of participating in an ecosystem, and, of course, on being an IBM Business Partner!

How can you do the same? Attend our next conference: <a href="http://www-01.ibm.com/software/events/insight/">IBM Insight 2014</a>! Early registration discount is available.

I hope you will attend. Magic can happen!

Whisk it away ! Check out our announcement for Developers with OpenWhisk!
I think the OpenWhisk announcement from Interconnect was one of the most significant.
Here's why:
- The world’s only fully open, event-driven platform that lets developers build modern feature-rich web and mobile apps quickly and easily
- It offers the choice of programming language including Swift and Node.js. Run custom code through Docker containers.
- Built-in chaining enables teams to individually develop small pieces of code with code from the community without having to write code
- Simply upload your code and let it run. There is no need to think about infrastructure or worry about peak projections
- Take advantage of easily integrating with an ever growing list of event providers and consumers including cognitive capabilities from IBM.

New to San Francisco! My First 8 Observations!
Cali is my new home! I love living near San Francisco, and going to Silicon Valley. Being in Tech, this is the place to be!
But here are a few observations I have seen from moving from the East Coast!
• Tesla’s are everywhere. I love Tesla and there are no shortage out in the West!
• T-shirts rule the day. I see them on their own, under hoodies, and even under suit jackets.
• Kale is a major food group. I have eaten more Kale in the last months than in my entire life!
• Vball rocks. Yep, at Stanford, they even have a band and cheerleaders for volleyball games. Back in NY it is football, Lacrosse that rule. Not here! My daughters are thrilled (my oldest made second team all-district!)
• No main food. In Texas, you must have TexMex and Barbque, in NY, Italian, but what is the food of Cali? It is healthy and very diverse!
• Longchamp bags. My purse is a Longchamp that is a cool, Parisan bag, that I carry everywhere. No one I know in NY carries one but here I see them everywhere!
• Talented nice, helpful people abound. In NYC, I could find a great restaurant at every corner, In San Francisco, I find great talent and people at every corner.
Innovate a #mobile #IoT Solution Around Smart Homes and Buildings, Connected Travel and Transportation and Smarter Healthcare #cloud
Here at IBM we’re excited to partner with 4YFN (Four Years From Now) <> to introduce an exciting new tournament designed for you as developers, and startups, to pave the way to the future of mobile application innovation (www.glovators.io)! The deadline to signup for the Tournament and Bluemix is December 11th. You'll then have until the January 6th to submit your IoT app innovation to potentially become a global champion on stage in Barcelona at 4YFN 2016,<>
The focus of the tournament is Internet of Things mobile development innovation. You as developers have the opportunity to build a mobile application related to one of your choice of three key burgeoning fields in the IoT industry including: Smart Homes and Buildings, Connected Travel and Transportation and Smarter Healthcare. Please read on to take a deeper look at these three themes, then explore details about what the world will look like in 2025 as a result of IoT and how you can develop the skills to stay relevant and ready to embrace those changes.
Theme #1: Smart Homes and Buildings
Do you have a brilliant mobile application idea that you think can help make everyday household tasks more comfortable, convenient and efficient? Perhaps your idea is designed to make mundane household tasks more fun, or allows people to interact better with objects in the house? By choosing the Smart Homes and Buildings challenge theme, you will be revolutionizing daily life, while transforming the future of domestic life, as we know it.
Theme #2: Connected Travel and Transportation
Transporting things across the world is getting more complex by the day. Be it the family vacation or a fleet of vehicles, the logistics of every day life are only just starting to be disrupted by the data available. Do you have an idea for a mobile application that can leverage weather data, traffic flows, and whatever else you need to deliver a safer, more efficient future for everyone? If so, connected travel and transportation should be your tournament choice.
Theme #3: Smarter Healthcare
What can be done to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare system, ultimately empowering patients by improving their experience and quality of life? With continuous advancements like remote monitoring and self-care engagement, the opportunities for smarter care are endless. Choosing to build a smarter healthcare mobile application will allow you to transform the healthcare system and create new efficiencies to allow healthcare practitioners and patients to enjoy a much more efficient and streamlined medical system.
There is no doubt that building your themed application will get you ready for operating in the future. Imagine that you are in the year 2025. Ambient computing abounds, it’s a world where devices work together to support people in carrying out their everyday activities. The world in which we live will conform to our identity and react and respond to our wants and needs, noticing our reactions and stimuli. Your chosen application will lead the way in this kind of world as it relates to smart homes and buildings, connected travel and transportation and smarter healthcare.
Given the complexity of this reimagined world, not only will you as developers need patience, diligence and passion, but also skills related to both software and hardware including: sensors, actuators, processors, radios, power, memory, industrial design, OS, networking, security, UX, apps, standards, and machine learning. A successful IoT developer will need to be creative enough to think outside the box and have a working knowledge of APIs and web/mobile native apps. Visualization and integration skills will be critical as well as agile development methods and a devops approach.
Now that you have a knowledge of what’s in store for the future, please join the mobile innovation movement and develop skills for the future in the Global Mobile Innovators Tournament. Visit: www.glovators.io for full details, sign up for the Tournament and Bluemix by December 11th so as not to miss out! www.glovators.io
HAPPY THANKSGIVING! Fun topic: Why do we call it a Turkey!? #socbiz #cloud #thanksgiving
Why Do We Call It a Turkey?
Turkey—the bird itself—is native to North America. But the name turkey is a geographic pretzel. As you might suspect, the English term for the bird comes from a country called Turkey. But more precisely, the word stems from Turkish merchants who, in the 16th century, imported guinea fowls to Europe, where they were called Turkey-Hens.
When similar birds were found in the Americas, they were mistaken as Turkey-Hens. So the name Turkey stuck and is now used worldwide for the bird.
